Dalhousie insists it's animal research is not cruel. I beg to differ.....

This is what Dalhousie
still does to dogs:

- endotracheal intubation ( tube is inserted through the mouth down into the trachea )
- thoracotomy (is an incision into the chest and heart)
- pericardotomy
- exposing of the heart
- electrical stimulation of hearts
- killed after all data collection was completed
-All experiments were performed and were approved by the institutional animal care and use committee of Dalhousie University.
- This work was supported by the Medical Research Council of Canada, Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation, and QEII Foundation, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

This is what Dalhousie does to kittens:

- tracheotomy (hole in throats)
- craniotomy (skull is removed to access the brain !!! )
- fitted with gas-permeable contact lenses
- titanium chambers cemented to their skulls
- exposed brains illuminated with green light
- intravenous catheters inserted
- killed after all data collection was completed

Dalhousie and the CCAC (Canadian Council on Animal Care) are corrupt

Dalhousie and the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC ) are very hard to deal with and are very protective over their animal stats. I have asked the CCAC many times for stats on Dalhousie since they are the "official record keepers". The CCAC tells me I have to contact Dal. Dal tells me that I have to contact the CCAC. Endless circle to try to get stats.

This is all I can get so far regarding stats. According to the CCAC, last year 540 dogs, 186 cats and 28,529 mice were used in experiments in the Atlantic Provinces.

Painfull experiments

I saw what was going on to dogs and other animals at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The things I saw happening to animals were horrible, painful, archaic and scientifically valueless experiments.

Animals at Dalhousie are jabbed with needles, tubes forced down their mouths, hearts and brains dissected while still ALIVE. Some of the "lucky" ones get pain relief. They never see sunshine and are killed after the research has been completed. Most of this "research" has been done by other students and researchers, yet it still continues on and on.

Canadian TAXES go towards funding more than half the grants at Canadian Universities including Dalhousie University. In Great Britain, it's against the law for medical (and veterinary) students to practice surgery on animals, and British physicians are just as competent as those educated elsewhere.

"The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog. . . .He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer; he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world. . . .When all other friends desert, he remains." - George G Vest

Last year, Dalhousie University received over $115,000,000.00 in funding. Some of the millions goes towards causing pain, stress, suffering and death to thousands of animals at Dalhousie University.http://researchservices.dal.ca/files/Funding_2006-2007-Aug-by_source.pdf
